Invisalign® Q & A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that gradually straightens and moves your teeth into place with a series of clear, almost invisible, plastic aligners. There’s no metal cemented to your teeth, no wires, and no rubber bands to put pressure on your teeth like traditional metal braces.

Invisalign aligners are removable, so you can take them out to eat and drink, and to brush and floss your teeth. Because they’re removable, caring for Invisalign is easier than traditional braces.

What can Invisalign do for my teeth?

Invisalign orthodontic treatment can treat most of the same issues as metal braces, including mild to moderate orthodontic issues such as:

  • Overcrowding
  • Crooked teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite

Invisalign is also a good option if you have straight teeth with gaps and spaces between them. The aligners can move the teeth to eliminate large gaps and improve your smile.

Am I a good candidate for Invisalign?

Schedule an appointment at Advantage Dental Care to determine if you’re a good candidate for Invisalign treatment. The dentist examines your teeth and gums and asks about your cosmetic goals. If you can benefit from Invisalign, they take X-rays of your teeth to develop a customized treatment plan.

The treatment plan is sent to a laboratory to create your first set of aligners. You then return to the office for your aligner fitting. Every 2-3 weeks, you’ll get new aligners to slowly move your teeth into the appropriate position over time. To achieve the best results, you wear your Invisalign aligners at least 20 hours per day, removing them only for cleaning and eating.

How do I clean my Invisalign aligners?

You must keep your Invisalign aligners clean to maintain good oral hygiene. Rinse them a few times a day with cool water and brush them twice daily with a soft-bristle toothbrush and toothpaste. Invisalign cleaning systems are available should you want more thorough cleaning.

Don’t give up your dream of straighter teeth just because you don’t want to wear metal braces. Invisalign aligners may provide the orthodontic treatment you need and the aesthetically pleasing smile you deserve.
